7/5/2007 - It is sad news to learn that Bob Butler, KB4BB  has became a silent key. Bob was a long time active JARS member. His other hobbies that I know about included being an active researcher in Genealogy.  He told me once that he buys bibles at flea markets and tries to find family members to return the bible to.

A visitation will be held at Thomas Funeral Home, 401 N. Ennis Street, Fuquay-Varina on Friday evening, July 13 from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Cape Fear Baptist Church, 6041 Butler Nursery Road, Cumberland County at 11:00 a.m. His ashes will be interred by Military Honor Guard immediately following the memorial service in the Church Cemetery.

4-Feb - It appears SuitSat froze without giving off any good data.
1/3/2006 SUITSAT has been deployed.  Initially, its orbit will coincide with that of the ISS. Later, as SuitSat-1's orbit begins to decay, it may show up a few minutes earlier than the space station.

SuitSat-1's 500 mW transmitter will report mission time, suit temperature and battery voltage (28 V is nominal) down to Earth. Its single Robot 36-format SSTV image, similar in resolution to a cell-phone quality picture.

Plans call for configuring the NA1SS Phase 2 station aboard the ISS as a crossband repeater and retransmitting the 145.990 MHz signal on 437.800 MHz FM. The Phase 2 transceiver runs 10 W. The ISS packet system will be shut down during the SuitSat-1 mission.

The SuitSat signal should be strong enough to hear using a VHF transceiver or scanner and a simple antenna, making it an ideal project for students to monitor and track. SuitSat's payload also includes a CD containing hundreds of school pictures, artwork, poems and student signatures.

The audio picked up in the Raleigh, NC area will be provided here on this website.

11/28 - Our net whip, Rob KA3SEI reported that his son Aaron broke his hand Thanksgiving day. We hope the pain goes away and his healing will be expedited. K4NGJ suggest water aerobics for exercise to help reduce the pain of exercising.

11/16 It is with sadness that we report that WA0AFW ROLAND E ERIKSON, has became a silent key. He passed away on 11/16 about 1 AM in the morning.  He recently was involved in a traffic accident and apparently did not heal from all the injuries. Roland was very active in the club in attending meetings, area hamfests and a regular on the JARS net.
